NXP Semiconductor Collaboration

The Problem

NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NASDAQ: NXPI) brings together bright minds to create breakthrough technologies that make the connected world better, safer and more secure. As a world leader in secure connectivity solutions for embedded applications, NXP is pushing boundaries in the automotive, industrial & IoT, mobile, and communication infrastructure markets while delivering solutions that advance a more sustainable future. Built on more than 60 years of combined experience and expertise, the company has approximately 34,500 team members in more than 30 countries and posted revenue of $13.21 billion in 2022.

NXP knows that 90% of companies believe they will be adopting some sort of digital automation before the end of the decade.NXP are world leaders and want to be at the forefront of technology solutions that will leave their mark on society. One of the areas they are innovating in is robotics and sensing technologies.

The Project

NXP has a number of standard kits that can be used by Robotics developers. They run a number of challenges to encourage students to develop new skills and work together on robotics projects. From the NXP Cup to the NXP Hover games, hundreds of students and teams participate in challenges annually.

NXP and Asimovo are actively  exploring ways to collaborate. As a starting point, Asimovo has been asked to be a service provider to NXP to help prepare and support the NXP cup participants..

This involves ensuring their new rover models are ready, and developing new software controls. Working between ROS and Zypher. Ensuring the software elements of the rovers are able to work together with the hardware. The NXP cup challenges teams to building out two key behaviours. These are demonstrated in live regional events before the finals in May.

The Solution

Asimovo are developing a platform that enables collaboration across key technical areas; namely smart robotics and sensing, AI, simulation and cloud computing. The platform is an environment that helps connect new disciplines and skill sets together. Helping focus not only on the development and testing of the robot today, but enabling advancements in robotics for wider application.

For the NXP-CUP Asimovo could not only help prepare and deliver materials for NXP-CUP participants.  The Asimovo platform could be used to showcase a digital version of the rovers and enable NXP-CUP participants to practice on a simulated race track.

The Outcome

NXP have both existing robotics hardware and global challenges. Asimovo have the ability to connect those to testing and development environments. Thus enabling robotics engineers to try out hardware components and NXP solutions in an easy way.  NXP and Asimovo are open to explore additional types of collaborations and looking for ways that we can create innovative solutions together.
